Instructions
- Melt the baking chocolate over a bain-marie (a heatproof bowl over a pan of water) or in the microwave in short bursts.
- Mix the orange extract into the melted chocolate. Taste test and add a little more extract if you want a stronger orange flavour.
- Cream the butter and sugar together until pale and fluffy — the fluffier, the better.
- Mix in the egg and vanilla extract.
- Sift in the flour and baking powder, then fold until just combined.
- Divide the mixture into two halves.
- Mix the melted chocolate into one half of the dough.
- Roll each half into a sausage shape, then squidge them together to create a marbled effect.
- Wrap the dough in cling film and chill in the freezer for at least 30 minutes.
- Slice into thin rounds and bake for around 10 minutes at:
- Gas Mark 4
- 180°C
- 160°C fan
