For the Steak Filling
- 800 g lean diced stewing steak (all visible fat removed)
- 2 medium onions, diced
- 3 carrots, peeled and sliced into chunks
- 2 cloves garlic, crushed
- 2 beef stock cubes (or stock pots, made up with 600 ml boiling water)
- 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tbsp tomato purée
- 1 tsp dried thyme (or mixed herbs)
- ½ tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp cornflour (mixed with a little cold water, optional for thickening – ~0.5 SV)
For the Chip Topping
- 750 g potatoes (Maris Piper or King Edward work best)
- Low-calorie cooking spray
- 1 tsp dried mixed herbs (or paprika/garlic granules, optional)
- Pinch of salt & pepper
Optional Extras
- 1 tsp English mustard stirred into the gravy (0.5 SV)
- 40 g reduced-fat grated cheddar on top before serving (use as Healthy Extra A or ~4 SV)
